DREAM TO GLORY

DREAM TO GLORY ( UKRAINE BMX SCENE)

The Ukrainian scene is something indescribable, there is no explanation why its riders achieve amazing levels of riding in such a short time and at such a young age , I don't know if it will be because of their ancestral culture, which is characterized by their courage, or because of the grit and hardness that embrace Ukrainian society, but in Ukraine, BMX athletes have a discipline that exceeds the limits of what is known in Western societies.

Although In 2022 the war began in Ukraine, that was the trigger for one of the strangest phenomena to occur within the scene... Ukrainian boys began to go viral out of nowhere, with impressive tricks such as icepick 180 whip  by Andrew Nesterov, Volodymyr Oleksiuk and Andri Podoba, plus there was amazing progress to the point that guys like volodymyr started landing tricks like fullcab whip, nollie 540, manual rail ride Downside whip or wild lines like Andrii Podoba's.  It is something without explanation since it was a matter of a year for the Ukrainians to direct the evolution of the bmx.

Volodymyr Oleksiuk has become the newest prospect to be the goat of bmx, a young medical student born in chernivtsi near the border of Romania and Moldova.

At 21 years old, Volodymyr has landed from the railride 360 downside whip, to being the second person in the world to master the icepick hard 180 whip, just when he was just beginning his professional career in 2022, just after the war started, Volodymyr made his leap to worldwide viralizing for performing tricks that no one does worldwide.

This is the beginning of a new generation of bmx, possibly the best generation in history and we are already seeing the birth of great legends and one of them is Volodymyr Oleksiuk.

OLEKSANDR KUCHERENKO

Hey guys, my name is Oleksandr Kucherenko. Kyiv, Ukraine is a place where I was born, grew, learn and met bmx. From the young age, I rode a different kind of bikes, from just a kid’s bike to a regular bicycle which I tried to ride down the stairs or jump from the sidewalks. But one day I saw how some guys are rolling down the street on their bmx bikes, so then I figured it out that I had a wrong bike to jump around haha.

In around 2012 i got my first bmx bike and damn I was stocked.

Those years bmx in our country was just at that period of time when it was about to blow up but we still had only one skatepark in my city. So through those years I used to ride in a city park called “The park of Victory” and it had couple different spot around it, which we cruised from one to another every day.

Bmx in Ukraine never felt like a sport, it was more like a big family which connect all the guys from different parts of the country and even those who talked in different languages.

Born to be legends.

The brothers Igor and Max Bespaily are the boys who made Eastern Europe shine, although it has been more than 12 years since the brothers began their professional career in Russia, 2 young Ukrainians who managed to put the entire Eurasian bmx on the map of the world bmx.

The brothers began their career in the stress bmx brand almost more than 10 years ago, but 8 years ago it was when we saw them shine for the first time worldwide when we saw the split edit that they premiered on the channel onsomeshit / the come up on the 5th of December 2014, thus being the video that would boost their career to the point of being a fundamental part of the global team of monster energy and vans bmx.

Max and Igor have given us jewels like the split video part Utopia filmed in Barcelona by Rich Forne or the video "Reflect" for Monster that they made in Moscow in the company of Rich Forne. In both videos the brothers showed us the level of technicality that it can reach within the bmx... It's fucking great also thanks to the brothers we were able to organize a street series and it was hosted by them since in each edition of the street series it was directed by street riders from monster energy.

Now the bespaily brothers live in Barcelona and ride for federal bikes, the brothers spend their afternoons making the best blogs for their youtube channel. So go support them so that in the future they will give us great video parts again.

The photo session was done by @sasha_ch during his visit to the bespaily brothers, so go support him on his instagram, fill him with many likes and tell him that he is one of the best photographers in Eastern Europe, so he can continue doing his art.
